  • INTERVIEW BY IZY ENDURANCE
    O.C EMMANUEL
O.C EMMANUEL, ISN'T A NEW FACE IN THE INDUSTRY,PER SE: HE'S THE WINNER OF FACE OF SOUTH EAST NIGERIA 2014, HE HAS GRACE SO MANY MALE PAGEANTS AND RUNWAY SHOWS. OH YES, HE HAS REALLY LEARNT ALOT ABOUT THE INDISTRY. HEAR THE TOP MODEL PERSONAL HISTORY. STAY COOL FOR THIS INTERVIEW.

SO HOW WAS IT BEING A MODEL WHILE YOU WERE IN SCHOOL?

Thank you it has not been easy so far but I had to combine studies, my business and my career all together but I thank God I am moving on a fast lane. Now I'm fully out of school as a graduate, I'm doing fine with my modelling career without any agency.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ON THE RUNWAY?
The first job I did was for my cousin sister back then in 2012; she needed models then to wear her new clothes (a combination of ankara and jean material) the models she needed did not turn up so I was asked to organise an audition to get male and female models; finally I conducted the audition and we picked 10males and 10 females and I was ask to groom them myself (it was a big challenge for me to groom both sex knowing fully well the task ahead) finally I did and I was the 11th guy amongst the new models I groomed and finally the show was wonderful and some of the music stars came (Adams of sound- city, password a music producer and other artist dammy crane was there too) but I stole the show that night because I was looking cool and confident on stage with my eyes fixed at the cameras everywhere and finally we got some of the Accessories sold out; but runway modelling is fun for me and I'm cool with that.

    WHAT ARE YOUR ORIGINS?
Thank you. When talking about my origins, it is a lengthy one but I will cut short, you already know some parts of me (like my names but let me just recap a little intro) I am Otuya Chinonso Emmanuel. From Ukwani LGA of Delta State from a family of 4 (father, mother, a younger brother and my humble self). I started modelling from my secondary school days but in 2002 when I watched the Miss World Pageants that Miss Nigeria won, I got inspired and motivated that I would love to win a pageant some day, but as at then there was no male pageant then I always pray to GOD that somebody should just wake up one day and organise a male pageant. Not quite long I heard about an audition (Mr Nigeria in 2005) but I was too young to contest for it because I was below the age bracket; but now we can hear about lots of pageantry; my history in modelling hasn't been that long enough to talk so much on; but with the way I'm going now, the world awaits my arrival.

YOU HAVE BEEN TO SO MANY MALE PAGEANT, WHICH ONE DO YOU THINK YOU DESERVE TO BE CROWN AS A WINNER? AND IT WAS GIVEN TO ANOTHER?
I can't say of anyone for now but what I can say is that all the male pageant I have been to everyone deserve to win and everybody is a winner but there must be one winner either on merit or the other way round: but you see as a man of integrity who is not ready to compromise anything will stand his ground and follow his passion and love for modelling; its a passion from within, any model that has passion for something never gives up and he sees his or herself as a winner even though no title is attach to his or her life. Winning a pageant has been my dream but there are some pageant I don't pray to win or else I will go bankrupt; to answer your question I can't say or mention any particular pageant for now but the organisers of the pageant I contested for knows that am good at all the challenges that was thrown to me and if I'm gud at them all I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be crown but the truth is pageantry this days has turned from charity organisation to profit making organisation.

HOW WERE YOU DISCOVERED AS FACE OF SOUTH EAST?

Initially I never expected it when my state was announced I got this shock, because I deserved better than what I was expecting out of all the guys that contested, I beat them in catwalk, stage usage, but when it got to the time of the interview the kind of questions I was expecting didn't come and when I heard the kind of question they were asking other contestants I was shock at such; what is the name of the president of nigeria, how many states do we have in nigeria. all those primary school questions. I got upset even before they announced the result; people were like shouting I mean the audience" see ojoro oo" but later I was happy when the title was given to me.

    TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND?
Growing up for me wasn't really easy, because I spent almost all my life with my grand mother, she motivated me on education and how to overcome my fears. Among her grand children I was her favourite; my mum went back to school to complete her studies. While dad spent almost all his life in the United State. My growing up with my cousins and my only brother wasn't easy back then at Ikoyi, Lagos. But all I can say now is a different story, things has changed for good. I went to a private university here in nigeria "Novena university" I was later transferred to another private university.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE INDUSTRY?
Hmmm: it has become a common trend in almost all the industries not just the modelling circle but all other circles. Homosexuality for me is a choice and not by force. Nobody would force you to do what you don't want to do; but it has increase in the entertainment industry. Personally speaking, I can't really say much on homosexuality. I'm not an activist but my advice to every model(s) is that "they should just use their head I mean be careful in order not to trash their long built image and name; if you ask me we are in a country where the law does not accept such act; we just have to be very careful when dealing with such issue as this.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR DOWNTIME?
Am a very busy person but when I'm not busy I go to see movies, swim with my brother and cousins whenever they come around for a visit, I also love making snacks just to pass out time. I love anything called kitchen work and finally I sing in the choir let me tell you one secret which is, am a church boy which made me a choir leader in one of the biggest denomination.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
An articulate model. A model who is intelligent, outspoken, creative and concept is my personal style.

    STYLE ICON?
I look up to people like, Uti Nwachukwu, Bryan Okwara and Deji Bakare.

    BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
Yes I love this question: It was in 2010 when I went for a location with my boss then to shoot a movie I wrote, then I'm yet to gain admission. An old actress told me (advise) and I quote " Emmanual I see lot of potentials in you, please try every possible means to get a BSc. Certificate and even upto Ph.D level because is people like you that would change the industry both nollywood and all other industry You may find yourself" that's the best advice I have ever come across in my entire life.

LETS HAVE A GIST ABOUT THAT SPECIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE?
Hmmmmm for now to be honest I am still single and not in any relationship whatsoever; I'm yet to achieve some of my dreams so I do not need handbag (anybody) I dont wanna give out one of my hand while I work with the other hand, not now I wanna work with my two hands as a single guy: when the time comes the right person will surface I just hope to get my Ph'D before I clock 30 years.

IT WAS REALLY NICE HAVING YOU AROUND. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND WE WISH YOU SUCCESS IN YOUR CAREER.
